Ignored or shunned by almost every cable provider in the U.S., the Al Jazeera English news channel has turned to the Internet in an effort to reach American viewers with more success.
Since April 2007 when Al Jazeera organized a distribution deal with YouTube, the popular videoclip site owned by Google, the channel has received 2m hits and on one day over the summer was ranked first ahead of Paris Hilton and other staple fare.
We had the opportunity to speak with a producer at Al Jazeera's Washington Bureau about this and other Free Press issues.

Hannan Sarhan is a producer at Al Jazeera English Channel's Washington Bureau. She is an American of Egyptian descent who has worked as a reporter in Cairo.
