Michael Barone - AEI
When the English Whigs who were behind the “Glorious Revolution” brought William and Mary from the Netherlands to claim the English throne in 1688 they presented a bill of rights. The document guaranteed the “Rights of Englishmen” and limited monarchial power. A little under 80 years later George Mason drafted his own Virginia Declaration of Rights and borrowed much of his text from the original English bill. Michael Barone has written about the Glorious Revolution and how it affected the American founders in his book, “Our First Revolution: The Remarkable British Upheaval That Inspired America’s Founding Fathers.”
