Rights

The Bill of Rights, the great invention of our forefathers, is in jeopardy; our rights are gradually disappearing. “Let me count the ways.”

Formally, having a driver’s license was a right – now it is a privilege, granted by the state in which you reside. You must, by law, wear a seat belt when riding in a vehicle. All motorcyclists and bike riders are obligated to wear helmets. People in cars can’t smoke when there is an infant in the vehicle. In many states it is illegal to use a cell phone handset when driving. Soon, your only choice of light bulbs will be fluorescent. There is a movement afoot to restrict unhealthy restaurant fare. Scientists may not use federal funds for stem cell research. Women may not have abortions in facilities that are funded by the government. You can’t pray in schools. Yet, you can deface the American flag. Next, will the government ban sexual intercourse for people over 65 in order to prevent heart attacks?

All of these restrictions are imposed by politicians, who know what’s best for us. It’s true that wearing seat belts reduce the extent of injuries in vehicular collisions and the use of helmets mitigates serious injuries for bikers and motorcyclists. This is a Republic, where we have inalienable rights, even to do something foolish and illogical. The danger we face is complete governmental control and the loss of our democracy, if this pattern continues.

If you are mistaken on the facts of a subject it can create a rocky aftermath, particularly in an instance when you take a course of action based on those misinformed facts. The pros and cons of payday loans, and what the future holds for the industry often can fall victim to this. Some politicians from both parties are attempting to pass legislation that would restrict or take away your ability to get a payday loan. Unfortunately, some of these politicians have succeeded in passing their legislation. Some politicians have even gone as far as outlawing the industry all together. Many of these laws are based on the assumption that payday lenders are run under the same ethics as illegal loan sharks. Please don’t be misinformed on the facts, and educate yourself, family, and friends on the right to financial independence.

An old saying asks the question, “if something isn’t broke, than why fix it?” Speaking of the short term financial assistance that payday lenders offer, things surely aren’t broken. In fact, customers sing the praises of payday lenders largely because, when used properly, they’re one of the fastest and safest ways out of a sticky financial situation. Unfortunately, some people in high places don’t see it this way and are trying to fix something that isn’t broken. Several bipartisan efforts have outlawed the entire industry in certain states, even inspiring presidential hopeful, Barack Obama, to take aim at them as well. On November 4, don’t vote by party; vote for the peoples’ right to financial freedom.

The rights promised to Americans by the forefathers were meant to be guidelines for keeping order. We were given the unalienable rights to the life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Laws and regulations are created to keep the quality of life better for every citizen. According to the 2007 U.S. Department of Transportation Action Plan to Reduce Motorcycle Fatalities report, 4, 810 deaths were reported from motorcycle accidents, which was a 5 percent increase from 2005. Also, 11 percent of total fatalities from highway accidents were caused by motorcycles were reported. It also affected the Nation’s overall highway fatality rate. By creating laws that enforce vehicle safety the government is not trying to restrict freedom, just keeps citizens safe. We are not losing our sense of democracy by learning and educating others on better ways of living. Buying fluorescent light bulbs saves energy, but restraining from smoking in the car with an infant saves lives. We will “lose our rights” when the government controls the number of children born per family, or we lose our freedom to speak our thoughts on this blog site. Democracy was created to keep order, while giving people restrictions to set boundaries. Without boundaries it is human nature to destroy what was created and disrespect others.
